Progress Report 2: 4th Street Football 2025

In last week's blog, I touched on offense. Today's topic is defense. And...wow! There were some amazing defenses and amazing defensive player performances in 2025!

At this point, it's a good idea to bring up some of the top defenders from last season, starting with the incredible Myles Garrett. 23 sacks, 33 stuffs, 3 forced fumbles, and 17 nervous QBs trying not to make him angry! Cornerbacks Michael Jackson and Riley Moss knocking down 19 passes is also an incredible feat. Zach Allen had FORTY-SEVEN QB Hits last year...not sure how he only ended up with 7 sacks, but... And Jordyn Brooks recorded 99 solo tackles, essentially going sideline to sideline mopping up opposing ball carriers.

Teamwise, it might not surprise you that the Chicago Bears lived off turnovers in 2025. They stole 33 of them from opponents, and it's a good thing, too...short of that, their defense was largely "meh." All of the top 7 teams in take-aways made the playoffs last year, again demonstrating how important it is to take care of the ball. On the other side of the ledger, the woeful Jets had...um...4...yes, 4...takeaways last year. All on fumble recoveries. That's right...nary an interception. HOW?!?!? The NFL started keeping records for interceptions in 1933. The Jets are the ONLY team in recorded history not to record a single interception!
